Students from eight university risk management teams will compete in San Francisco for the top honor in the 2022 Spencer-RIMS Risk Management Challenge.
The winning team will be announced at a Spencer Educational Foundation Inc. reception on Tuesday at the Risk and Insurance Management Society Inc.’s Riskworld conference.
The eight finalists will pitch their strategies to a panel of risk professionals on Monday based on a case study developed by risk executives at Starbucks Corp.
Teams from Appalachian State University, Fudan University China, Peking University China, St. Mary’s University (Texas), University of Hartford, University of California South, University of Georgia and University of Wisconsin were chosen to compete.
Teams from Fudan and Beijing universities will present virtually.
Meanwhile, 36 students have received free registration and funds for travel and accommodation to attend Riskworld, thanks to a 2022 Anita Benedetti Student Participation Program scholarship awarded by RIMS.
The program, sponsored by the Spencer Educational Foundation, recognizes the achievements of outstanding undergraduate and graduate students in risk management and insurance.
Six of the 36 scholarship students are risk management and insurance students attending international institutions. The international group includes a student from Lingnan University in Hong Kong; three from the National Insurance Academy in India; and two from Universidad EAFIT in Colombia.
